I finally bought these for the first time last week. I really really like them. Of course, they're not going to be the best tasting noodles you've ever had - that's expected, but I'm determined to lose this extra weight and eating these in conjunction with my HCG diet has been a lifesaver! You should also be a pretty decent cook otherwise they will taste boring. I mixed packets of miso soup with them and had a pseudo-soba noodle miso soup. I also add them to chicken stock with some onion, parsley and sliced cabbage. If you're looking for an Italian style noodle replacement, you may not be thrilled. The texture is definitely more Asian and like stretchy rice noodles (not a shocker there). Be real, this is a different noodle and you will need to expect some differences in textures and flavor, etc. You get the box and the noodles come in these little plastic liquid filled bags. I cut open the bag and put them in a bowl and gave them a few rinses in cold water. There wasn't a horrid smell at all, more like a faint brine if anything. Any smell rinses easily and completely. I drained them and heated up a frying pan, added some olive oil and garlic, and tossed the noodles around for a few minutes. I purchased the variety pack because this was my first time trying shirataki noodles. I liked the Angel hair the best because it was easy to incorporate into dishes and thin enough that the rubbery texture was less noticeable. The thicker texture of the Fettuccini bothered me some, but I think now that I am used to eating Shirataki noodles, the texture would be okay. The Miracle rice was okay, good to add to anything you might normally add rice, like soup, stuffed peppers, etc. The smell isn't bothersome if you rinse the noodles well in warm water. I've since ordered more Shirataki noodles and am finding many different ways to incorporate them into my cooking. |
